We are Outstanding!

St Leonard’s Hospice has been awarded the top rating of ‘Outstanding’ following a recent two day inspection by the care regulator, the Care Quality Commission. The purpose of the inspection was to ensure services were safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led.

The inspection team praised the Hospice for the “high quality care and support consistently provided”, they applauded the “extremely clean and tidy premises”, “the beautiful environment” and the “quality of meals and presentation”.

Patients, carers and service users were given the opportunity to speak with the inspectors and told them “the staff were caring and went the extra mile”, that they “felt safe” and staff respected “their privacy and dignity” One patient commented “My quality of life has increased tenfold”.

Staff and volunteers praised the staffing levels, having the time to speak with patients, the training they received and feeling valued within an open and inclusive culture.

External organisations and colleagues were also interviewed by the inspection team and were supportive of the Hospice and its services. The Hospice@Home service was seen as ‘second to none’ with a fabulous staff team.

Responding to the report Martyn Callaghan, Chief Executive of St Leonard’s Hospice said “I am incredibly proud to be the custodian of this ‘Outstanding’ caring, patient-centred organisation. We would not be outstanding without the fantastic community and supporters who fund the care year on year, our healthcare partners and the magnificent team of staff and volunteers we are fortunate to have. The ‘Outstanding’ rating is a real accolade not only for St Leonard’s Hospice, but for everyone who supports us, thank you”.
