STORIES TO MAKE YOU SMILE
MANOR SCHOOL VISITS AND TALKS
The Hospice was visited by a number of pupils from Manor School, who as part of their GCSE had to research different charities and do a presentation to Year 7 and 8 form groups. We were very impressed with their enthusiasm, and it is fantastic that they are so keen to share the information about the Hospice with others. The visit and talks with the younger children even encouraged some fundraising. Lucy Robinson and Katie Umpleby organised a cake stall, whilst Alex Dunford and friends sponged and waxed a teacher!
MILLTHORPE SCHOOL'S EVENT
St Leonard’s recently visited Millthorpe School, along with 5 other charities, each to talk to a Year 7 form group about the work of their charity and their role in the community.
The students were great and really interested to learn about the Hospice; they then spent an hour making publicity materials such as banners, flags, and posters to display as they carried out their sponsored event in the afternoon. They spent one hour ‘running’ round the Knavesmire, some even in fancy dress.
Shannon Dubery, a Year 7 pupil wrote, ‘Why don’t you give at least one penny to St Leonard’s Hospice, because every penny counts, and could even change someone’s life.’
JOSEPH ROWNTREE SIXTH FORM FUNDRAISING
We are lucky to receive regular donations from
Joseph Rowntree’s Sixth Form Students. This year they donated £226.14 from their annual fundraising in memory of parents of former students, all of which goes towards patient care. Well done and thank you to you all and keep up the hard work!
KING JAMES' SCHOOL BED!
Students from King James’ School in Knaresborough took part this year in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race. The all girl team, dressed as World War 1 Nurses, with ‘soldier’ patient completed the gruelling course, partly in the river. They came first in the Junior Female Team category, automatically qualifying for next year’s race. They have raised sponsor ship for St Leonard’s. Well done all of you!
