St Leonard's Hospice in the spring

  • We provide skilled palliative care
  • We have 20 beds for in-patients
  • We offer support and social activities for up to 14 people on four days a week in Daycare
  • We are currently running a Hospice@Home piot scheme
  • Since we opened we have cared for more than 6,000 patients
  • We never make a charge to patients or to their families
  • It costs us £3.3 million each year to run year - more than £365 every hour of every day. We have to raise £2.8 million of that each year - most of it from local people and businesses

  • We have hospice charity shops in Acomb, Haxby, Pocklington, Tang Hall and Scarcroft Road, and a Furniture Shop in Acomb
  • Our bereavement service supports the families of our patients
  • We run a lymphoedema clinic that treats out-patients as well as our in-patients and Daycare patients
  • Around half our in-patients are discharged to their homes or to a nursing home
  • We provide physiotherapy and occupational therapy
  • We also offers complementary therapies, including massage
  • Our ecumenical chaplaincy cares for the spiritual needs of patients and their families
  • We maintain close links through our social work department with social services professionals
  • We have more than 300 volunteers who undertake many varied duties in and out of the Hospice
  • We are committed to research and education that ensures we receive the benefit of the expertise and experience of others. We also freely share with others the knowledge and skills we have learned in our work.
