St Leonard’s Hospice, which was founded in 1985, is a registered charity caring for people with life-threatening illness, which is often – though not always – cancer. We are part of the national Hospice Movement.
Our skilled and specially-trained medical and nursing staff offer
Daycare to which people living in their own homes can come
In-patient care in a purpose-built, 20-bed unit
The many members of the Hospice staff work together as a close and integrated team, sharing their skills and experience for the benefit of our patients.
Doctors and nurses work with a team of other professionals and are supported by an army of volunteers. Everyone contributes to the special nature of hospice care.
Patients are referred to the Hospice by their family doctor or their hospital consultant. If they would benefit from hospice care they can be invited to visit us to find out more about what we offer to them and to their families.
We never make any charge to patients or relatives. The Hospice is financially supported almost entirely by the generosity of the local community.
Central to our philosophy is the care of every patient as an individual. We believe they should be consulted about medical treatment and have their questions answered honestly; they should be treated with dignity and sensitivity; they should be cared for as a whole person, with compassion and understanding.
How are patients referred to St Leonard’s Hospice?
Referral is made by the patient's own family doctor or hospital consultant. People who could benefit can be invited to visit the Hospice to find out more about what St Leonard's has to offer.
Our aim is to provide for the needs of patient, carers and families in a setting which is as homely and informal as possible and from which the patient will benefit with enhanced quality of life and greater physical and mental comfort.
