Family and Bereavement Care
A major part of our care is looking after the families and loved ones of our patients. It is always hard when a relative or a friend is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and comes to the Hospice. We try to ensure that families and friends are supported as much as we can. We will discuss their worries and offer them practical guidance as they come to terms with what is happening. Our Social Worker can help them with dealing with allowances and arrangements if a patient is being discharged. And we are with them as their relative or friend reaches the end of the their life. Bereavement Care Our care does not stop there. The support that St Leonard's Hospice offers the families of patients who have died is a much valued aspect of our care. Our Bereavement Care Coordinator will make sure that bereaved relatives continue to be supported. They are offered a specially-trained supporter who can keep in touch with them, and they are given the opportunity to come to the monthly Luncheon Club, where they can meet for a chat and the support of other bereaved people.
