1978 | Idea of a Hospice in York was suggested by four local members of the Royal College of Nursing | October 1978 | Public meeting held to gauge support | December 1978 | Steering Committee formed under Trevor Copley, who remained Chairman of the Hospice until 2002 | 1978 – 1982 | ‘Informal’ fundraising underway | May 1982 | Appeal launched for £750,000 by Archbishop Stuart Blanch
| November 1983 | Foundation stone laid by Archbishop John Habgood | February 1984 | Day Hospice opens one day a week. | September 1984 | Construction of in-patient unit completed | 11 February 1985 | First in-patient admitted | 1 June 1985 | Official opening by our Patron, HRH The Duchess of Kent | 1986 | Day Hospice opens two days a week | 1987 | Day Hospice opens three days a week | January 1988 | 500th in-patient admitted | September 1990 | 1,000th in-patient admitted | December 1990 | Extensions added with space for physiotherapy and occupational therapy | February 1993 | 1,500th in-patient admitted | June 1995 | 2,000th in-patient admitted | October 1998 | £2 million Millennium Appeal launched
