Idea of a Hospice in York was suggested by four local members of the Royal College of Nursing

October 1978

Public meeting held to gauge support

December 1978

Steering Committee formed under Trevor Copley, who remained Chairman of the Hospice until 2002

‘Informal’ fundraising underway

May 1982

'Hurrah' leaflet for original appealAppeal launched for £750,000 by Archbishop Stuart Blanch

November 1983

Foundation stone laid by Archbishop John Habgood

February 1984

Day Hospice opens one day a week.

September 1984

Construction of in-patient unit completed

11 February 1985

First in-patient admitted

Official opening by our Patron, HRH The Duchess of Kent

Day Hospice opens two days a week
