Volunteer vacancies

Volunteer nurses Yvonne and Stephanie

Current vacancies are listed below, but other vacancies arise from time to time. We are always happy to hear from people who would like to discuss the possibilities for helping in and around St. Leonard’s, with or without contact with patients.

VOLUNTEER NURSES
Volunteer registered nurses usually help for a four-hour session once a week, at times to suit them. This role may interest nurses just leaving employment, or gradually returning to work. Full training and supervision are given.

RECEPTIONISTS Our receptionists provide a much appreciated service, welcoming visitors, answering calls and selling cards etc. Full training is given. We are looking for volunteers who can offer 3 or 4 hours on a relief basis. They need to be available in the evenings from 5-8pm and/or weekends when the duties are 9-1, 1-5 and 5-8.

QUALIFIED HAIRDRESSER So that all our patients may be offered visits to our attractive, well equipped salon, we need an extra volunteer hairdresser to help for about 3 hours a week on a relief basis. Training in the individual needs of our patients is provided. This is a very rewarding role, which is much appreciated by both male and female patients.

KITCHEN ASSISTANTS Can you help in our kitchens on weekdays, preparing food for patients and staff and helping with general kitchen duties?

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS

We need friendly, relaxed people with their own cars to take patients to and from Daycare, and occasionally to run errands. Duties are usually on weekday daytimes. A fuel allowance is offered.

HOUSEKEEPING We are looking for volunteers to join our friendly housekeeping team once a week or fortnight. You can choose how much time to give – between two and four hours on a weekday.

COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIST Are you an experienced aromatherapist or experienced holistic massage therapist with time to give to St Leonard’s? We are looking for volunteer therapists to provide holistic care for patients in Daycare. Volunteering under the supervision of the Therapy Services Manager, you will gain experience of treating patients with a life threatening illness in a safe environment. Applicants should be able to offer 3 hours a week or fortnight, after a clinical interview, induction and training, and expect to be available for at least a year.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST Are you a qualified occupational therapist with one day a week or fortnight to give to St Leonard’s? Would you like to gain some valuable new experience in a different setting? You will be working one-to-one and in groups, looking at social and creative activities, as part of the Day Centre team, with the Hospice’s own Occupational Therapist on hand to give supervision and advice. After a clinical interview, induction and training, applicants should expect to be available for at least a year.

Volunteers are also welcome at our shops in Acomb, Haxby, Pocklington, Scarcroft Road, Selby and Tang Hall.
