Donating goods

We are always pleased to receive goods for sale, but we should be grateful if you would remember the following points:

MOST IMPORTANT:

Please do not leave any goods outside any of the Hospice Shops. as your valuable donation may be stolen. We will only accept goods during our published opening hours.

small sunflower We can only accept good quality household goods and clothing to sell. If in doubt, ask yourself if it's the sort of thing you would buy. If it isn't, maybe no one else would either!Haxby Shop shelves

small sunflower We are unable to accept large quantities of goods, unless you have made prior arrangements with us. Our storage space is limited and we rely on volunteers to handle the donations.

small sunflower We hope you will understand that there may be occasions when our shops are unable to accept any goods on a particular day or for a certain period. This is because we cannot endanger our staff and volunteers by having our shops try to cram too much in. To make sure we are accepting goods on a day you wish to call, please telephone the shop in advance.

small sunflower If you have FURNITURE you wish to donate to the Hospice, please ring the Hospice Fundraising Centre on 01904 409 152, between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday. We will then make arrangements for our van drivers to collect the item if it is suitable to sell. If you wish to deliver small items of furniture to the Furniture Shop please telephone the shop manager on 01904 781576 before you do so to make sure space is available.

small sunflower There are certain items that we cannot accept, either because of Trading Standards rules or because experience has shown that they will not sell. They include:

  • Gas appliances
  • Large electrical appliances, such as washers and fridges
  • Upholstered furniture that does not have the fire-retardant labels still securely attached
  • Glass (for example in cupboard doors or furniture) that does not conform with safety regulations

Our drivers are trained to assess the furniture we are offered. They will advise you if we are not able to accept your donation; we hope you will understand that we cannot accept everything we are offered.

Remember - you can now Gift Aid your donations to St Leonard's Hospice, at no extra cost to you!
