New Hospice shop opens in the City Centre

The new shop at Layerthorpe, was opened in August. This comes just one year after the charity opened a new shop on Fossgate in York city centre last August. The charity’s shop in Heworth closed earlier in August as part of the expansion plans.
The shop will primarily focus on selling high quality second hand furniture but will also stock clothing, books, media and accessories.
The shop interior is something the Hospice’s retail team is very proud of as Helen Moreton, retail manager, explains: “The look of the shop is very different for us. When we opened our shop on Fossgate last summer, the interior was styled on a trendy, independent boutique whereas we have tried to give the interior a slightly industrial look. All the units are moveable and multipurpose and have been especially designed for us by our retail facilities co-ordinator Dom Spurr who has done a great job!  Dom has built most of the fixtures from OSB board and steel giving us a unique interior.  It’s been a great team effort all round.
We also greatly benefitted from the support of MKM builders who donated all of the materials to build a wall in the shop and create some of the fixtures.  We are extremely grateful to them for this, ensuring we get the shop open on time.”
The shop sits opposite ASDA Layerthorpe, and used to be home to Distinctive Fireplaces. The opening hours going forward will be Monday to Saturday 9am to 4pm.
If you have furniture you would like to donate and have collected, or are interested in volunteering at this new shop, you can contact the retail team on 01904 788 777.
