Official opening of city centre Hospice shop this week

The shop is made up of three floors selling men’s and women’s clothes, books, furniture, haberdashery and electronics. The ribbon will be cut at 11am and customers will be welcomed into the ground floor shop. The upper two floors will be opening very soon and will include a men’s section and also a bridal, prom and occasion wear room, by appointment only.
The shop at 20 Colliergate was previously a branch of betting shop William Hill and, before that, an Azendi jewellery store.
The charity already has a popular store a short walk away on Fossgate - as well as branches in Acomb, Fulford, Easingwold, Haxby, Layerthorpe, Scarcroft Road, Sherburn, Pocklington and Selby.
St Leonard's Hospice marks its 35th anniversary this year as Helen Moreton, retail manager, explains: “This is our 15th premises and the Hospice’s 35 year of operation. The Hospice officially opened in 1985, and the first ever charity shop opened on Friday 21st June 1991 in part of the old Regent Cinema in Acomb.
“It will be our biggest shop and is a really exciting venture for the Hospice. We hope to see lots of people on Friday and over our first weekend! If you’re in the city centre for the Ice Trail, make sure you pay us a visit too!”
The shop will be open on Friday from 11am until 4pm, and then will be open Saturday 9am – 4pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm.
If you have items you would like to donate and have collected, or are interested in volunteering at this new shop, you can contact the retail team on 01904 788 777.
